Eco Blade Technology
The Eco Blade is our specialised tracked machine that cuts, mulches, and treats invasive weeds in a single pass. After cutting the plant at ground level and mulching the canopy on site, it applies herbicide directly to the cut stump, targeting the root system before any protective response can occur. It is the same principle as hand cutting and painting, executed at scale and without the need for a separate spraying operation.
Standard mulching removes the canopy but leaves the root system alive, which means the plant has everything it needs to come back. The Eco Blade combines mulching with direct stump herbicide treatment, killing the whole plant in one pass. Gorse in particular has a seed bank that can remain viable in the soil for up to 30 years, so treating the root matters.
Conventional spraying targets the leaf surface and depends on weather conditions, plant stage, and the ability to penetrate dense or waxy foliage. The Eco Blade applies herbicide directly to the fresh cut stump, bypassing those limitations entirely. It works across a wider range of conditions, produces less chemical drift, and can operate safely on terrain where conventional spray rigs are not suitable.
Yes. The tracked platform distributes weight evenly across the ground, allowing the machine to operate on slopes, creek banks, swamps, and uneven surfaces that wheeled equipment cannot safely access. Many gorse and blackberry infestations across the Macedon Ranges and Central Victoria occur on exactly this type of terrain.
Gorse & Blackberry Control
The most reliable approach is the cut-and-paste method: applying herbicide directly to the freshly cut stump so it is drawn into the root system before the plant can respond. The Eco Blade replicates this at scale, combining cutting, mulching, and stump treatment in a single pass.
Because neither method alone reliably kills the root system. Mulching removes the visible plant but leaves a healthy root intact, and regrowth typically appears within a single growing season. Foliar spraying can struggle to penetrate established gorse due to its waxy leaf coating. Without treating the stump directly, the plant retains everything it needs to regrow.
Yes. The Eco Blade’s contained stump-application method significantly reduces the risk of chemical drift compared to conventional foliar spraying, making it a suitable option near drainage lines and waterways where blanket spraying carries higher risk.
Fire Safety
Yes. Gorse is one of the most flammable plants commonly found on rural properties in Victoria. It burns at extreme temperatures, spreads fire rapidly, and because it grows back after standard mulching, an untreated infestation is a recurring fire risk, not a one-off problem. Removing the root system permanently, as the Eco Blade does, removes the hazard rather than just the visible plant.
The most effective steps are: removing gorse and blackberry (both are significant fire fuels), slashing grass before fire danger periods, and establishing clear firebreaks and fence line clearance. Timing & Seasonal
Late summer through early autumn is ideal when ground is firm and dry. Late autumn into early winter also works well once the first rains have arrived but soils are not yet saturated. Gorse is a perennial and can be treated at any time of year when access allows. Blackberry is most effectively treated from late spring through autumn while the plant is actively growing.
For most Central Victorian properties, ground conditions matter more than the calendar date. Saturated or waterlogged soils can restrict machinery movement on steep or clay-heavy ground. On sites with reasonable access, winter treatment across the Macedon Ranges, Hepburn Shire, and the Bendigo region remains viable and is often a productive window before spring growth accelerates.
Yes, on most sites. Because the herbicide is applied to the cut stump rather than the leaf surface, the Eco Blade is far less dependent on weather than conventional foliar spraying. The main limiting factors are saturated ground that restricts machinery access, and severe frost stress that can reduce herbicide uptake. On sites with reasonable access, winter treatment across the Macedon Ranges and Central Victoria remains viable.

Yes. Mountain View Contracting has carried out vegetation and weed management work for Parks Victoria, Loddon Shire Council, and Forest Fire Management Victoria. We also work alongside the Victorian Gorse Taskforce, and our project work has been featured in a case study with the Bass Coast Landcare Network.
The Mountain View Contracting fleet includes a Post Track Loader, 5.5-tonne Excavator, 1.7-tonne Excavator, Tipper Truck, Eco Blade, and an 800L hand spray rig. All equipment is well maintained and suited to the full range of vegetation management and earthmoving work we carry out.
