How It Works
Fine fuels — dried grass, twigs and leaf litter — are what drive how fast a fire moves and how intensely it burns. Keeping grass cut short across paddocks and property perimeters removes that fuel before fire danger period begins.
Local councils set their own expectations for grass height and perimeter width during fire danger period, and can issue a Fire Prevention Notice if a property isn't compliant. Slashing ahead of the season, and again after a wet spring when regrowth comes through fast, keeps a property in line with those requirements.
